Republic Day celebrations take place at at PAU, Ludhiana on Monday.

Ludhiana, January 26, 2015: 66th Republic Day was celebrated at Punjab Agricultural University, today with great zeal. PAU Vice Chancellor, Dr.Baldev Singh Dhillon unfurled the tricolor and inspected the parade by NCC cadets. A large number of faculty, staff and students attended the celebrations.

In this address, Dr. Dhillon paid tributes to the martyrs who made great contributions for the country and said that day has special significance as on this day in 1930 a pledge for total independence of the country was taken. He said that our country has made great progress and we all should be proud of our nation. “Our parliamentary system of democracy has been a great success and is appreciated the world over”, he said, adding that ‘faith in self’ and ‘self analysis’ are important for the progress. Dr. Dhillon lauded the role of PAU in contributing towards food security of the nation. He pointed out that over the years, new challenges in agriculture have emerged. Decreasing soil fertility and water shortage are threatening the sustainability of our agriculture. An awakening about sustainable agriculture is very important and we must work hard to meet the challenges, he said. “Maintaining food security is of utmost importance for piece and prosperity of the country”, he remarked. The VC also showed concern over the decreasing profitability from farming and urged to control excess expenditure on functions.

Earlier, Dr.Ravinder Kaur Dhaliwal, Director Students Welfare welcomed the Chief Guest, officers of PAU, faculty and staff. Sweets were distributed to mark the celebration.
