Jalandhar, July 29, 2018: Nari Shakti Welfare Society Punjab today organized "mela teeyan da" at Amar Palance. The Function was based on the theme of Punjab’s heritage and culture. Giddha, folk songs, tappe, bolian, punjabi songs were performed. Those present included former SGPC chef Bibi Jagir Kaur, BJP Mahila Morcha state president Reena Jaitley, former minister Punjab Manoranjan Kalia and Nari Shakti Welfare Society Punjab chairman Anju Verma. Speaking on the occasion, Kalia said that organizing the function of teej is to highlight the Punjabi traditional culture to the youths. He said these types of function have an importance in the society. Jaitley said that the function teej is celebrated not only in India but also abroad by the Indians. This festival has its importance as the girls enjoy fun on swing during the festival by singing folk songs. This function of teej is related to our heritage, she added. Bibi Jagir Kaur also spoke about the importance of teej. She also spoke about relevance of “teej” during monsoon season. She lauded the performance of all those who performed on the occasion. Nari Shakti Welfare Society Punjab chairman Anju Verma also spoke. Navneet Gill, Dr Geetanjali Sharma, Dr Dimple Sharma, Monika Saini, Navneet Sharma U.S.A., Karamjit Kaur Dhillon, Navjot Kaur, Kaushalya Joshi, Tajinder Singh, Ashish Chopra, Rajiv Walia, Puneet Shukla, Shamsher Singh Dhindsa, Balbir Singh Bittu, Vinay Sabharwal and others were present.
