Promises to take up issue of GST on sports goods import with Centre
Mohali, July 8, 2017: Raninder Singh has been re-elected as President of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) for another four-year term.

In the elections conducted at the PCA Stadium premises in Mohali on Saturday, Singh defeated Shyam Singh Yadav, President, Uttar Pradesh Rifle Association, with an overwhelming 89-1 margin.

In his vote of thanks, Raninder Singh assured the Federation and the entire Shooting fraternity that he will personally take up the matter of GST with the Ministry of Finance, via the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, in right earnest, as the 18% tax levied on all imports, including duty-free imports, might have an adverse impact on the Shooting sport ecosystem, including on athletes vying to bring glory to the country. Most of the world-class equipment pertaining to the sport needs to be imported and was till now part of the customs duty free list, he pointed out.

The NRAI expects an early resolution to the issue and will do all in its power to ensure that the athletes and the sport are not affected, said Raninder Singh.

Meanwhile, D V Seetharama Rao has been unanimously re-elected as Secretary General for the second term while Karan Kumar has been elected as Treasurer of the Association.

There are many new faces inducted into the Governing Body of NRAI. K N Singh Deo, M.P. from Odisha, has been unanimously elected as Senior Vice President.

The members for the posts of Senior Vice President, Secretary General, Joint Secretary Generals, Treasurer and Members of Governing Body of NRAI were also elected unanimously.
