RAI SIKH expects five assembly and 1 LS seat in Punjab

Ferozepur, March 31, 2013:  The Election Commission of India (ECI) has to made changes in the reservation of all the seats on the basis of population,  after passing of Bill 2013 by the Centre, in the Rajya Sabha for reserved seats of Lok Sabha and Assemblies for scheduled caste and scheduled Tribes.

Giving his information, Gurdip Singh Warhwal, President, All India Rai Sikh Sabha said, “It is a matter of pleasure that in the next elections, the Rai Sikh community is likely to get 5 Assembly and 1 Lok Sabha seats in their favour.”

He  said, “The Bill has already got the consent of Prime Minister and Cabinet and the government has asked for three months’ time to implement the same.”

Warhwal further said, “In Punjab, with the merger of population of Rai Sikh in the scheduled caste category has increased from 28.9 per cent to 33 per cent out of which 4 per cent population is of Rai Sikh community.  In Punjab, the voters of Rai Sikh community in the districts including Ferozepur, Fazilka, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala and Mansa, would have its impact on 34 Assembly and 7 Lok Sabha seats.”

It is pertinent to mention here that in Guruharsahai, Jalalabad, Fazilka, Ferozepur and Shahkot constituencies, the strength of the leaders of general category had the dominating effect and in case, in the coming times, these constituencies are kept reserved for Rai Sikh community, the future of general category leaders who had already made their niche in these areas, looks to be in dark.  With the reservation of these assembly constituencies for SC category, the leaders like Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister Punjab from Jalalabad,  three times winner from Guruharsahai Rana Gurmit Sigh Sodhi, Surjit Singh Jiyani from Fazilka and other prominent leaders Hans Raj Jossan, Vardev Singh Noni Maan, Mahinder Rinwa and others will have to look for some other constituencies, which would not only be a difficult task but beyond  expectations.
