Chandigarh, March 1, 2016: Pushpa Gujral Science City has been conferred National Award for outstanding efforts in communication of Science & Technology - 2015 in a function held at Technology Bhawan, New Delhi on March 1, 2016 on the occasion of National Science Day celebrations. Dr. Neelima Jerath, Director General received the award from Hon’ble Union Minister of Science, Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr Harsh Vardhan.
The Science City has received this award in recognition of its outstanding work in Science & Technology communication and promotion of scientific temper in the society for the last 5 years.
This is the second National Award conferred on Science City Earlier, it received National Award in the year 2013 for taking initiatives on Energy Conservation by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, GOI.
PGSC is a registered society of Punjab Government set up to supplement formal science education, create scientific temper amongst masses, promote an innovative ecosystem and motivate youth to take up careers in Science. Science City was opened to public in March 2005 and has received overwhelming response from the region as about 3.5 million people have visited Science City.
Science City in its pursuance to develop scientific temper launched “Mobile Science Exhibition” to take Science to the doorsteps of rural population and spread the message of science to work towards sustainable development and expose them to some of the emerging and challenging issues. This program enables PGSC to achieve intended purpose of spreading scientific awareness to a larger section of the society. More than 1 lac people have been reached through this bus since October 2015.
With joint efforts with media, PGSC is regularly publishing articles, features, programmes, interviews etc to communicate to larger masses of the region.
