Chandigarh, June 18, 2019: “The Punjabi cinema is making waves at the global level now a days and there is no corner of the world where the connoisseurs of the Punjabi cinema cannot be found.” These views were expressed here today at the release of the book titled ‘Punjabi Cinema Da Sachittar Itihaas’ penned by Mandeep Sidhu which chronicles the history of the Punjabi Cinema from 1935-1985.

In the function organized by the North Zone Film and TV Artists Association, Punjab Kala Parishad, the minister however emphasized that the immense contribution made by the pioneers of the Punjabi cinema towards its success today must always be remembered for posterity. The minister also divulged that the Punjabi cinema of today has carved out a niche for itself in the international forum and its stupendous success saga instills a sense of pride in every Punjabi.

Reiterating his commitment of rendering every possible assistance to the Punjabi film industry, the minister announced Rs. 5 lakh for the North Zone Film and TV Artists Association. He also said that such forums play yeoman’s role in voicing the concerns of the film industry to the Government in order to ensure that necessary steps be initiated to give fillip to the film actors, as well as technicians apart from being of help to the older actors in their hour of need. On the occasion, noted actress and filmmaker Priti Sapru was also felicitated.

Among others present on the occasion included Chairman of the association and doyen of Punjabi cinema Mr. Guggu Gill, President Mr. Gurpreet Ghuggi, Vice President Karamjit Anmol, Gippy Grewal, Sunita Dheer, Mr. B.N. Sharma, Mr. Malkit Rauni and Pammi Bai.
