Chandigarh, August 7, 2014: The Punjab Government has urged the Union Government to relax the MBBS admission criteria for the SC students so that 71 vacant seats of SC quota could be filled. The Government has also asked the GOI to lower the admission cut off marks from 40% marks to 30% marks required for SC students to get admission in medical colleges of the state.
Disclosing this here today Rajesh Bagha, Chairman, Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission said that the Punjab Government has written to the GOI in this regard on the recommendation of SC commission, Punjab. He said that it has come to the notice of SC commission, Punjab that 71 seats of SC quota are still vacant, which could have not been filled due to the strict admission norms of the union Government. He said that many SC Organisations have also given representations in this regard to SC commission, Punjab.
Bagha further said that the union Government has also been requested to lower the MBBS admission cut off limit for the SC students from the present 40% marks to 30%. He said that this relaxation could also be provided as per the notification of Punjab Government No.5/9/2009-3HB-III/1472, Dated 7-2014, Para no. 12. He said that in the session 2013-2014 the SC quota seats were filled lowering the admission cut off marks limit to 26%.
