Chandigarh, September 27, 2016: A meeting of Executive Committee of State Health Society under National Health Mission Punjab was held under the Chairpersonship of Ms.Vini Mahajan, Principal Secretary Health & Family Welfare, Punjab. The meeting was attended by Mission Director, National Health Mission, Punjab; Special Secretary Housing & Urban Development; Director, Health Services; Director Family Welfare and representatives from Department of Social Security Women & Child Development, Department of School Education, experts from PGI, Chandigarh.
During the meeting Ms.Vini Mahajan lauded the efforts of the department under Urban Health Kiosk's initiative for which the Punjab state has recently been given an award by Government of Rajasthan. Urban Health Kiosk is a pre-fabricated structure in slum/ slum like areas, where medical services to slum dwellers/ poor population is provided at their door-step. OPD services are provided in these Kiosks and Special Outreach Camps are held once a month. More than 50,000 patients have been examined and provided services in these Kiosks.
During the meeting Principal Secretary further directed that robust action plan for control of anemia, especially among pregnant women and adolescent girls be implemented in the state. While discussing the Maternal Death, she directed that each & every death must be reviewed and corrective measures be taken to further reduce the Maternal Mortality in the state. She also told to strengthen the referral mechanism and stringent follow-up of high risk pregnancies. Each & every High risk Pregnancy is to be recorded by the ANM and follow-up be taken by the respective Senior Medical Officers. Executive Committee appreciated the contribution of ICDS, Education Department & Health Department for implementing the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakaram. Ms. Mahajan exhorted to lay more focus upon the non-communicable diseases especially Cardio Vascular diseases, Stroke and Cancer.
During the meeting Sh Hussan Lal, Mission Director National Health Mission, Punjab apprised that 11 dedicated Mother & Child Health wings are fully functional in the State and 7 more are being constructed in the Moga, Nakodar, Sangrur, Khanna, Dasuya, Samana and Malerkotla. He added that 212 drugs, 63 consumables are being provided free to all the patients in Government Hospitals. The efforts of the State for reducing the Child Mortality have borne good results as Under-5 Mortality has reduced from 31 to 27 in a year, and Infant Mortality Rate in the state has reduced from 26 to 24. This is due to the focused attention of the State on Maternal & Child Health Services.
