Punjab Spinners Association sending memorandums to Local MLAs

Ludhiana, August 11, 2014: Continuing with its movement to get the state of affairs of Punjab Spinners, back on track, M.M.Vyas, President, Punjab Spinners Association informed that local MLAs are also being sent memorandums so as to make them aware of the problems being faced by spinners of Punjab.

The memorandums will stress the need for a level playing field to spinners in Punjab which can happen only by reducing VAT to 2% or imposing a ban on the imports through exemption certificate for not paying the advance tax or through some other suitable options which the government deems appropriate.

A drive to spread the message of “problems are being faced by the spinners of Punjab” to Prime Minister of India, Chief Minister of Punjab, Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Minister of Industries, Punjab and Excise and Taxation Commissioner, Punjab shall start from 16th August, 2014.

Vyas told that three office bearers of Punjab spinners association will act as a catalyst to augment the drive to send individual letters by tens of thousands of employees of Punjab spinning mills to the concerned authorities. The letters shall be sent by employees of the spinning mills who have a real probability of being associated with loss of employment. Vendors who supply input materials to spinning mills and by people having a natural concern for the unemployment of Punjab youth. On an average, 50,000 letters shall be sent on daily basis. W.e.f. 16th August, 2014.

They shall be explaining in their letters as to why spinners are requesting Government of Punjab to reduce the rate of VAT from 6% to 2% or ban the import of yarn into the state of Punjab through exemption certificate for not paying the advance tax. They shall also be detailing in their letters as to how the tax disadvantage to the yarn spinners located in Punjab has further compounded the problems of spinners in Punjab as the Power tariffs, wages & logistics costs in Punjab are already amongst the highest in the country.
