Chandigarh, July 19, 2013: The Punjab government has sought special package from the union government for the growth of industry in the state. In a written communication to Anand Sharma, Union Industry & Commerce Minister, Anil Joshi, Industry and commerce Minister, Punjab has made a fervent appeal to UPA government to immediately grant an economic package to provide a much needed impetus to the stagnant industrial sector in Punjab.

Joshi also sought time from Sharma for a personal meeting to apprise him the gloomy industrial scenario in Punjab for want of financial assistance from union government and it’s apathy towards the long pending demands of Punjab.

He said that disbanding of freight equalisation policy non setting up of major public sector industrial projects and its coastal dislocation are the major bottlenecks in the path of industrial growth in Punjab.

Joshi reiterated that the union Government's tax concessions for the neighbouring states has led to an unwarranted flight of industry from Punjab to these states.

He said that the Punjab is the victim of the circumstances as the long stretch of militancy in the state has adversely effected the overall growth of the state.

The communication further mentions that the Punjab being a land locked state sharing international border with the hostile neighbour and practically having no access to the international markets.
