Terms 11 per cent entry tax introduced on sugar with effect from June 2, 2015 an injustice with 2.75 crore people of Punjab by the ruling SAD-BJP government
Ludhiana, June 9, 2015: A meeting of the committee formed to implement the decisions taken at the State Advisory Committee of Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal held on May 31 this year at Jalandhar was held recently at the office of Mohinder Aggarwal State Secretary of the Mandal under the leadership of the State President Amrit Lal Jain.
The meeting chalked out a strategy for launching membership drive.
The meeting observed that 11 per cent entry tax introduced on sugar with effect from June 2, 2015 was an injustice with 2.75 crore people of Punjab by the ruling SAD-BJP government. It was observed that people of the state had become scapegoat only to render benefit to some of the private sugar manufacturers and the price of sugar had gone dearer by Rs.3.  This step of the state government was highly condemnable, the meeting felt.
Reacting over a statement given by the Union Minister of State Jayant Sinha that Punjab was on way to progress and it did not need economic package, the meeting termed this statement as incorrect on the plea that economic condition of the state was poor, especially condition of trade and industry was pathetic. The meeting pointed out that how a state could be on the path of progress where 20,000 industries had been locked and trade had come down drastically.
The meeting said Punjab Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal on June 3, 2015 had endorsed the Mandal’s stand demanding that the NDA-led government at the Centre should announce a special  economic package for Punjab and do justice with the state.
The meeting demanded from Badal to listen to the advice of the Centre and stop giving free power worth Rs.6,000 crore to agricultural sector and allocating grants worth crores of rupees during sangat darshan programmes.
The meeting also urged Punjab chief minister to stop doing politics with traders and industrialists and start holding discussions with them and take state on the path of development by getting reopen the closed industrial units and replacing the prevailing “anti-trade” policies.
The chief minister was also urged to call a meeting with the traders and industrialists to get their view point and suggestions on GST. The meeting also demanded that the SAD-BJP government should clear its stand on GST.
It was urged upon the chief minister to take effective measures to check the deteriorating condition of law and order in Punjab.
The meeting observed that the chief minister must take steps to remove prevailing unrest among the traders and common men.
Meanwhile, the meeting demanded that RBI should slash landing rate by 1 per cent. It was also demanded from RBI that banks should be directed to immediately act accordingly once repo rate was reduced because it had been observed that some banks took a long time to act upon and reduce the landing rates.
The meeting among others was attended by Sunil Mehra (state general secretary), Mohinder Aggarwal (state secretary), O P Gupta, Radhey Shyam Ahuja, Kamal Gupta, Vijay Gupta, Ashwani Mahajan and Vinod Bharti.
