Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal gives 10 days ultimatum

Ludhiana, October 17, 2019: A deputation of Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal today met Sukhpal Singh Brar, DCP Traffic Ludhiana, in connection with a complaint filed to Police Commissioner Ludhiana by Mandal’s state general secretary Sunil Mehra alleging that he sustained injuries while he was going on his motorcycle on October 2 this year due to potholes developed in the city road.
The deputation was comprised among others of Sunil Mehra, Kamaljit Soi Member National Road Safety Council, Parveen Sharma, Kamal Gupta, Pawan Malhotra, Ramesh Mahajan, Parveen Goyal, Rakesh Vohra, Manish Ahuja, Pran Bhatia ex-municipal councillor, Rajinder Bhatia and others. ACP Traffic Ludhiana Gurdev Singh was also present. It may be mentioned here today that following the receipt of his complaint, Mehra was asked to appear before DCP Traffic Ludhiana to give his statement and evidences to substantiate his allegations.
After meeting the police authorities today, Mehra told the media persons that he had submitted his statement along with evidences such as photograph of the spot, documents related to treatment in the hospital after he sustained both internal and external injuries and clippings of newspapers carrying reports about the incident.
Mehra said they had apprised the police authorities that FIRs were registered in similar cases occurred in other parts of Punjab and even Maharashtra. The deputation members sought legal action against both Mayor Ludhiana and Municipal Commissioner Ludhiana and registration of an FIR against both of them for showing negligence in their duties not repairing the roads in the city due to which the city residents like him were sustaining injuries in the road accidents.
Further, Mehra said they had requested the police authorities to take legal action within next ten days, otherwise, the Mandal would be constrained to call a maha panchayat of traders and launch a campaign against Municipal Corporation Ludhiana. He said he had sustained both internal and external injuries in the incident. His wounds on forehead were stitched with five stiches, he said. He said the smart city Ludhiana was becoming “killer city” due to pathetic condition of roads as big potholes have developed in the roads across the city.
Mehra told that DCP Traffic Ludhiana has assured them to take legal action on his complaint.
It may be mentioned here that Sunil Mehra is an ex-municipal councillor (Ward No.63) and president of Shivratri Mahautsav Committee Ludhiana, secretary of Hindi Parishad Ludhiana and secretary of Bhartiya Udyog Vyapar Mandal, Delhi. He had filed his complaint to Commissioner of Police Ludhiana stating that on October 2, 2019 he was on his way on motorcycle from Division No.3 to Madhopuri to attend a meeting of Beopar Mandal and when he arrived near the bank of Madhopuri Dariya he lost his balance over the vehicle and fell down due to potholes on the road. As a result, he sustained injuries on his forehead and other parts of the body following which he got unconscious. Luckily, Ashwani Mahajan, Parveen Sharma and Pawan Malhotra- all known to him who were passing from there saw him unconscious on the road following which they took him to USPC Jain Charitable Hospital, Sunder Nagar, Ludhiana. He added he was treated at the hospital following which he regained his conscious. He had sustained both external and internal injuries in this mishap. He had stated that both mayor and municipal commissioner were responsible for the mishap occurred to him. He had further stated that it was duty of both mayor and municipal commissioner to properly maintain the roads as Municipal Corporation Ludhiana used to collect various taxes from people but providing nothing in return to people. As such, the roads are in pathetic condition. He had sought legal action against both mayor and municipal commissioner and registration of an FIR against both of them.
