PUNJAB POLICE HC DISMISSED, INSPECTOR’S SERVICE EXTENSION CANCELLED FOR ROLE IN DRUG TRADE
Chandigarh, July 5, 2018: Acting on the directives of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the Punjab Police continued to crack its whip against erring cops alleging involved in drug trade, dismissing a Head Constable and cancelling its earlier orders of extensive in service for an Inspector. LR/Head Constable Jatinder Singh (No. 270/GSP) has been removed from government service by SSP Gurdaspur with effect from July 5, 2018, under Rule 16.2 (1) Read With Section 7 of Police Act 1861 and under Article 311 (2)(b) of the Constitution of India. In the case of Inspector Rajinder Kumar, acting on the recommendation of the SSP Gurdaspur, the IGP, Border Range, Amritsar issued orders of compulsory retirement, thereby withdrawing the extension in his service, with immediate effect, according to a police spokesperson. The spokesperson further revealed that police had received information on June 14 from sources that Aditya Mahajan @ Jeeta s/o Suresh Kumar r/o Dhariwal was involved in smuggling of drugs, in connivance with Inspector Rajinder Kumar and his gunmen LR/ HC Jatinder Singh. Consequently, both of them were transferred to Police Lines, Gurdaspur. The spokesperson further said that SHO Dhariwal was directed to conduct a raid to verify the information, during which, on June 16, Aditya Mahajan @ Jeeta was apprehended and 10 gms heroin and 50gms of intoxicated powder was recovered from him. An FIR No. 61 dated June 16 u/s 21/22/61/85 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Dhariwal. Since the allegations against the police officials were of serious nature, SSP Gurdaspur formed an SIT on June 29, under the supervision of SP/Investigation, Gurdaspur, and two DSPs, to verify the role of these delinquent police officials and investigate the matter thoroughly. All the accused were taken on production warrant, and were interrogated by the SIT. After verifying the facts, the SIT submitted the report to the SSP Gurdaspur that Inspector Rajinder Kumar and LR/HC Jatinder Singh were aware of the activities of the accused and were in full knowledge that the accused Aditya Mahajan @ Jeeta was indulging in drug trafficking.
