Punjab News/Punjab’s e-district project bags “award of recognition”

Chandigarh, December 23, 2013: In a major achievement, e-district project of State Government has bagged “award of recognition” during Computer Society of India Nihilent e-governance awards 2012-13 for impact of this project on improvement of citizen services delivery.
A spokesman of the Punjab Government informed said that the award has been given to e-district project for bringing improvement in public service delivery in Kapurthala and SBS Nagar districts. The spokesman further said that the awards forum has received over a thousand nominations under various categories out of which Punjab attained the top position.
He added that this e-district project has also been included in the annual compendium released by CSI SIG e- governance for year 2012-13. It may be mentioned here that Nihilent is a global consulting and solutions integration company using a holistic and systems approach to problem solving.
The award has been bestowed after rigorous evaluation that included field visit at pilot locations, interaction with all stakeholders and final presentations in Hyderabad. The e-governance mission team Rajnish Malhotra and Manpreet Singh Senior Consultant Program Management received the award from J. Satyanarayana, Secretary Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Government of India in a ceremony held at Vishakhapattanam recently.
He added that that e-district project has been envisioned to ensure a faster, simplified, cost effective, timely, convenient and over the counter delivery of services to public. The connectivity has been provided to all the field offices involved in the service delivery in the state. Adding further he said that more than 300 digital signatures have also been issued to designated officials for approval of certificates/outputs.
He informed that currently 47 services under this pilot project are live in both the districts. He added that this project would be rolled out in the remaining 20 districts of the state very shortly. “The citizens are the ultimate beneficiaries of this e-district project as the application process to issue certificates, ration cards, sanctioning of pensions and other services have become simplified.
Meanwhile, Principal Secretary, Governance Reforms C.
