Mohali, December 10, 2013:  Punjab today unveiled the massive plan for the skill improvement of one lakh youth in next three years to meet the human resource requirement of upcoming industry and signed two major MoUs with TATA group and Trident for this purpose.
On the second day of Progressive Punjab Investors Summit, the session of Skilling for Inclusive Growth focused on the critical areas of human resource development and skill development to meet the increasing requirements of Industry of new economy.
Presiding over the session A.R. Talwar, Principal Secretary Technical Education said that no industrial growth was possible without ‘Industry Ready Talent’ and Punjab’s Technical Education Department was focusing on Growth with Equity, Continuous up-skilling, key industry partnerships to ensure job creation and ensure abundant talent for industry. He said that Punjab was recognized as leader in skill and education and UNDP report has ranked Punjab 3rd in India on Human Development Index. Moreover, Punjab School Education was ranked No. 1 among states in Composite Education Development Index of India. He said that there was abundant ability of talent with 101 engineering colleges offering 35 courses and training 43784 graduate engineers every year. He said that 181 Polytechnics and 378 ITIs were imparting training to Punjabi youth in 120 trades and every year 1.25 lakh trained apprentice are being offered to the industry. He said that such was the repute of Industry Responsive Training offered by Punjab that multinational groups like TATA, L&T, TAJ, Hero, Trident and Toyota were coming to Punjab for placement drives of their companies.
Focusing on skill development, Talwar said that Multi Skill Development Centers were training 15000 trainees each in every center annually and today TATA has signed MoU to setup Skill training Academy at Ropar.  Morevoer, private training providers were training 10,000 youth annually with 70 percent assured placements.
Talwar said that skill development was focusing on supply-demand mismatch in employment generation, skill gaps, migration, linking vocational and academic training, updating curriculum to constantly engage youth and technology upgradation.
Calling upon entrepreneurs to setup engineering colleges, polytechnics, R&D institutions in the Education City upcoming in New Chandigarh for 1500 acres of land has already been acquired.
Participating in the session Jai Prakash Rai, Director General National Skill Development Agency, Atul Bhatnagar, CEO National Skill Development Corporation, Arun Kumar Pillai, COO IL&FS Skill Development, TV Mohandas Pai, Chairman Manipal Global Education and Subash Bijlani, Professor, Graduate School University of Maryland, University College, USA explored various areas in which private sector can tie up with government for skill development purpose. / punjab news live, punjab news online, punjab news, punjab news headlines, punjab breaking news, india news, punjab news
