Punjab News- Sant Ram Uddasi’s reflects anguish of earth: Prof. Gill

Talwandi Sabo, November 8, 2013: On the 24th anniversary of revolutionary Punjabi poet Sant Ram Uddasi, the Post Graduate of Punjabi of Guru Kashi University held a seminar.

Prof. Gurbhajan Singh Gill, Director (Planning & Development) GKU was a chief guest. In his key note address Prof. Gill stated that the poem of Sant Ram Uddasi the reflects symptoms of pain of the earth. Following in the footsteps of Guru Nanak Dev, the lot of poor and down trodden should be ameliorated. Uddasi also provided the inspiration to women empowerment and self respect. He also makes us aware of anguish of Bhai Diala and the present plight of the workers. Prof. Gill also observed that this poem will be made a research project for M.Phil and Ph.d students so as to make it a subject of academic discussion.
Delivering the presidential address Ajmer Singh Sidhu, Punjabi NRI from Canada stated that rural Punjab will have to be apprised of its duties in addition to their rights. The Punjabis living abroad should take the lead in this behalf. Referring to his native village ‘Chakkar’ in District Ludhiana, Sidhu stated that he dreamt of all around development of his village while in Canada and translated it reality in his village in India. He also stated that the girls mentioned in Uddasi’s poem are learning boxing in the village Chakker and wining National and International gold medals. They aim at making in village a heaven after getting education. About 500 children come to the playground in the evening and this process has made the village completely free from intoxication.
Addressing the gathering on this occasion Principal Dr. Balwant Singh Sidhu stated that the massage of Sant Ram Uddasi needs to be disseminated to every village to create self confidence among the people.
Dr. Sunil kumar anchored the show and Dr. A.K Kansal, Dean (Languages) thanked the Chief Guest and the audience. Basketball Olympian Dr. Tarlok Singh Sidhu, Dr. Ravinder Kaur and Dr. Simarjeet Kaur were also present on this occasion.
