PUNJAB launches plan to manage and handle e-waste: Chairman PPCB

Chandigarh, July 10, 2013: Punjab Government has launched a specific plan to Manage & Handle E-waste in the state.  The Punjab Pollution control Board has granted authorisation to the five firms for the collection of e-waste.

Divulging this, Ravinder Singh Chairman Punjab Pollution control Board said that as per e-waste Management and Handling Rules, under the Environment Protection Act these rules apply to every producer, consumer or bulk consumer involved in the manufacture, sale, purchase and processing of electrical and electronic equipments or components as well as to the collection centres, dismantlers and recyclers of e-waste.

He said that every concerned is directed to make necessary arrangement for the  management and handling of e-waste, obtain necessary authorisation/ registration from the Board, file returns  as prescribed under Rules and shift their e-waste to authorised collection centres.

Chairman said that following are authorised to collect e-waste M/s Singbros Mobility Solutions, Patiala, M/s Sony India Pvt. Ltd., M/s Singbros Mobility Solutions, Sirsa, M/s Attero Recycling Pvt. Ltd, and M/s Anand Traders.

Ravinder Singh said that it’s the responsibility of the producers, collection centres, consumers or bulk consumers, dismantlers and recyclers for obtaining authorisation and getting registration under the rules.

He further added that every dismantler or recycler of e-waste or the person/ firm intend to establish the e-waste facility is also required to obtain consent to establish (NOC) from the State Pollution Control Board.
