Chandigarh, June 17, 2014: Sympathetically considering the demand of the bus operators and escalation of crude oil price in the international market, the Punjab Government has decided to increase the bus fare of private as well as state transport by 8 paisa per kilometer. It was disclosed by Ajit Singh Kohar, Transport Minister, Punjab after presiding over a high level meeting of the department on Monday.
Kohar said that the fare has now increased to 91 paisa from the present 83 paisa per kilometer. He said that this action has been taken in view of the decisions taken in the cabinet meeting. He further said that besides this, decision of challaning overload trucks, expired school buses and overloaded indigenous modified vehicles (Gharukas) has also been taken. Minister said that the officials of the department have been directed to check the overloading cases of vehicle duly visiting the sites of computerized weighing machines.
