Chandigarh, November 14, 2017: The Punjab government led by Captain Amarinder Singh has released Rs. 25 crores against arrears to sugarcane growers, with the assurance that the balance would be released soon.

Acting on the Chief Minister’s directives, the Finance Department on Tuesday released the amount against the total pending amount of Rs. 71.16 crore, according to an official spokesperson.

The spokesperson pointed out that t of the total payment of Rs.581.91 crores for the crushing season 2016-17, the Cooperative Sugar Mills had already released an amount of Rs. 466.25 crores at their own level. The government, on its part, had paid Rs. 45.00 crores to the sugarcane growers.

Further, he said, after approval of the pending payment of Rs.71.16 crores, an amount of Rs.25.00 crores will be transferred the accounts of Sugarcane Growers by the respective Cooperative Sugar Mills tomorrow i.e. November 15, 2017.

The balance amount of Rs.46.16 cores would also be released shortly, to be transferred to the accounts of the cane growers.
