CHANDIGARH, DECEMBER 14, 2016: The Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, who is also the President of the Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab State, Shri V.P.Singh Badnore, while launching a new scheme “Sharing and Caring’” stressed upon expanding the role and sphere of selfless services of the Red Cross Movement. He said the best way to build a strong nation and healthy society is to imbibe spirit of love and brotherhood amongst children to achieve the targets of Red Cross.

The Governor also announced that all the Schools in Chandigarh would impart First Aid Training to the students so that they could manage any emergent situation or immediately give relief to the patients before taking them into the hospital. He said that the skilled human resource in the form of Red Cross volunteers is not only relevant and helpful in troubled times but also contribute a lot in the peace times.

The Governor appreciated the proposal put forth by Indian Red Cross Society for encouraging better and more dynamic ties between both private and government healthcare sectors.

Launching an app e-Parchi in this regard, the Governor said that the inbuilt Good Samaritan part of private medical professionals gets duly recognized by this app and help in bridging the human infrastructure gaps, especially in rural areas.
Mr. Avinash Rai Khanna, Vice Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, New Delhi said that besides giving first aid training to the youth, police and others was essential but at the same time disaster management planning should also be taught to our students. Both first aid training and disaster management planning should be introduced in the academic syllabi of the Universities.

Mr. C. S. Talwar, IAS (Retd.), Secretary of Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab State Branch welcomed the guests and gave a brief presentation about the activities and projects of the Punjab Red Cross. He told the audiences that the Punjab Red Cross has been adjudged to "the best performing State" in many activities like TB Project, HIV/AIDS Project and Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts. In many other activities the performance of Punjab Red Cross has been upgraded and improved many folds.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner, Nawanshahar, Mr. Vipul Ujjwal who has conceptualized the scheme “Sharing and Caring” said that the mission of Indian Red Cross is to inspire, encourage and initiate at all times so that human sufferings can be minimized and even prevented creating thereby congenial and peaceful atmosphere. This scheme will enable the poor people to get the services of the specialized private professional doctors also under the aegis of Red Cross.

Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included Dr. Veer Bhushan, Joint Secretary, IRCS, New Delhi, Dr. H.S. Balli, Director Health Services, Punjab.
