Chandigarh, July 11, 2013: The Punjab Government has taken important initiatives to control the growth of population in the state so that the living standard of general public to be improved and civic facilities to be provided to the every citizen of the state.

The Punjab Government was campaigning to educate the people about the small families and motivating them for family planning by providing financial assistance of Rs 1100 to the males for operation and Rs. 600 and Rs. 250 were being provided to the females of the weaker sections and general section respectively. Asha workers were also educating the peoples for family planning and contraceptives were being providing free of cost in the Government hospitals.

The Punjab Government also announced 1 % reservation in admissions for single girl children’s in the technical education institutions across the state. These girl Childs would be able to attain 1 % reservation in all the Engineering colleges, Polytechnics, Industrial Training Institutions of Punjab.

Likewise the Punjab Government also motivating to the government employees for small families.  Every female employee was being given six months maternity leave and every male employee was being provided fifteen days paternity leave only for the two children for discoursing them for big families.

According to the official statistical of census department the population growth came down from 19.6% to 13.89% in 2011 compare to 2001.  Although the population of Punjab has increased from 2.44 crore to 2.77 crore but due to the concrete efforts of state government, population growth came down from 2.37% to 2.29% compare to national percentage in 2011. Sex ratio also improves from 874 to 895 in 2011.
