Punjab Government Committed To Buy Every Single Grain From Farmers

Chandigarh, October 3, 2015: The Punjab government was determined to purchase and lift every grain of paddy from markets across the state. The state government machinery was fully geared up for the smooth operation. Payments would be made to the farmers within the time schedule fixed by the government of India.
Stating this here today an official spokesman of the government said that in order to facilitate farmers during the ongoing Kharif Season 2015-16, the Punjab government has also launched a helpline in the directorate of Food and Civil Supplies here in Chandigarh.
He said that the helpline has been set up aiming at providing instant relief to the farmers if facing any difficulty during the procurement season. The helpline would be functional from morning 8 till 11 at night and anybody including the farmers, commission agent, Sheller owner, transporter, labour or even amongst public could contact and register their grievances and suggestion regarding the paddy procurement process  on this helpline.
Giving details of contact numbers and email ids, he said that the phone number 0172-2702120, 0172-2703535 and 0172 -2702356 would be remained functional while e-mails could be sent on [email protected].
Besides this all the 22 districts would also be having District Food and supplies Controllers as the Nodal Officers. According to the spokesman the entire procurement process was being monitored online. A special grievances cell has also been set up which would look into the grievances of the people relating to the paddy procurement and resolve the issues instantaneously.
Issuing fresh guidelines to the farmers bringing their produce in the market, the Punjab government has advised them to bring dry and clean grains in order to avoid moisture content which tends to increase when the crop is wet.
