Punjab government bats for need based training in industrial sector

Chandigarh, November 30, 2014: The Punjab Government is taking various pro-active steps to prepare it’s youth to get technically equipped with latest technical and industrial skills.
Stating this, a Government spokesperson said that Punjab is home to 101 engineering colleges, 181 polytechnics and 378 ITIs which is ample proof of it’s sincere efforts to create a pool of skilled talent for the development of industrial sector.
The spokesperson further said that besides providing a solid base to meet growing demands of industrial and technological sector, the Government recognising the importance of need based training, has decided to provide customized courses for industrial sector.
In this regard, 4 multi skill development centres are to be established at Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bathinda and Hoshiarpur. Each one of these centres will have capacity of inducting 15000 trainees per year. A skill training academy is being established in Roopnagar with the assistance of TATA Group having a capacity of 2000-3000 trainees per year.
Giving more details, the spokesperson said that the Government has teamed up with private training partners (PTP) in which the infrastructure is provided by the Government to the private players who have technical know-how to train about 10000 persons per year with assured placement rate standing at 70%. The community colleges also impart training in skill oriented courses which have been designed after consultation with and keeping in mind the demands of the industrial sector to ensure maximum employment.
The spokesperson also informed that under the ITI scheme 34 centers of excellence have been established in different fields of technology where the content of the course and training could be decided by the industry in keeping with their requirement. Facilities have also been provided to train students in multiple hospitality courses in the ITIs.
