Punjab to generate pollution free solar power-Sukhbir Badal
Chandigarh/Sri Mukatsar Sahib, October 30, 2014: Punjab is all set to generate pollution free power through Solar Power Project as Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal will inaugurate Solar Energy Project at village Panjava of Lambi constituency on Friday at a cost of Rs.350 crore.
Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal accompanied by Punjab Non Conventional Energy Minister Bikram Singh Majithia will inaugurate the project, which would generate 34 MW solar power to cater the electricity needs of more than 1 lakh families.
According to an official spokesperson Badal, himself, laid the foundation stone of this unique solar power project in the month of January and it has been completed 4 months before its set date of completion. He informed renowned house in solar power sector Azure has setup this first of its own kind project. The Punjab Energy Development Agency had signed a MoU with Azure last year to put Punjab on the lane of solar power projects. He said this project has been setup on the boundary of village Panjava and Sikhwala on 170 acres non-cultivable land.   
Giving further information regarding project, the spokesperson said that this pollution free will cater the electricity needs of 250 villages equal to more than 1 lakh families besides preventing generation of 49000 metric tonne of carbon dioxide annually. He said that Punjab has signed various MoUs with this venture to bring investment of Rs. 1500 crore besides generation of 150 MW power through solar power projects.
He disclosed that with the restless efforts of Non-Conventional Energy Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, Punjab was scripting new chapters in the area of Solar Power Projects and very soon these efforts would enlist Punjab in most advanced states in solar power generation.
Meanwhile Chairman of Company H.S. Wadhwa, CEO Inderpreet Wadhwa and co-founder Preet Sandhu thanked Punjab Government for formulating investors’ friendly solar power policy.
