Chandigarh, August 13, 2013: The Punjab government has extended the jurisdiction of Educational Tribunal Punjab to enable it to hear and decide the cases regarding disputes between the management committee of all educational institutions and their employees.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesman of Education Department said that to ensure speedy justice to the employees of all educational institutions, the Punjab Privately Managed Recognised Schools Employees (Security of Service) Act, 1979 has been amended through an ordinance promulgated on 16th July, 2013.

He pointed out that before the promulgation of ordinance, the Education Tribunal Punjab had the jurisdiction to hear and decide the cases of disputes between the managing committee and employees working on aided posts in privately managed recognised schools only.

He further said that the Supreme Court in the case of TMA PAI Foundation & others Vs State of Karnataka had observed that the disputes between the Management and the staff of Educational institutions must be decided speedily and without incurring excessive costs. Therefore, with a view to comply with the observations of the Apex Court, the jurisdiction has been extended, he added.
