Chandigarh, October 17, 2012: Punjab Government has chalked out a plan to construct new 14045 houses for slum dwellers with the cost of Rs 564.66 crore with an aim to provide the permanent shelter to persons living under below poverty line, besides improving the look of cities across the state.

Disclosing this here today Local Bodies Minister Chunni Lal Bhagat today said that the Housing for Urban poor in Major cities” mission would be completed till March 2013. Besides that Punjab Government has also decided to start the repair work of already built 3680 houses.  

He said that maximum 5728 houses would be constructed at Ludhiana with the cost of 149.22 crore, from which nearly 1500 houses are on the verge of completion, followed by  Amritsar where 1648 houses would be constructed with the cost of Rs 66.35 crore. He further said that in the district of Bathinda and Mansa Punjab Government has sanctioned Rs. 253 crore to build up the 5328 houses. Besides constructing new houses, Punjab Government has also started the repair work of already constructed 3640 houses at Jalandhar with the cost of Rs 42.40 crore.

The Minister also said that the undergoing construction of 720 houses at Rajpura with Rs 30 crore would be completed till the end of this year. Besides that 542  houses at Jalalabad and 79 houses at Batala would also be establish.
