Chandigarh, April 13, 2018: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has extended his greetings to the people on Baisakhi, the 319th Sajna Divas of the 'Khalsa Panth', even as he paid rich tributes to Dr.B.R Ambedkar on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti.

In his message, the Chief Minister said that these three historic occasions were a reminder to all of us that every section of the society represents the same ethos of humanitarianism, universal brotherhood and societal harmony.

The Chief Minister exhorted the people to uphold the traditions underlined by the festival of Baisakhi, as well as the auspicious occasion of the 319th Sajna Divas of the 'Khalsa Panth', symbolizing the indomitable spirit of Punjab, Punjabi & Punjabiat.

He recalled that on this sacred day in 1699, Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji, the Tenth Guru of the Sikhs, created the ‘Order of Khalsa’ at the holy city of Sri Anandpur Sahib by baptizing ‘Panj Pyaras (beloved ones) belonging to different castes. The foundation of the Khalsa Panth marked the creation of an egalitarian society, disseminating the moral values of equality, love and compassion for mankind resulting in communal harmony and universal brotherhood in the world.

He hoped that this festival of Baisakhi, which marks the beginning of the harvest season, will bring prosperity to the state.

Recalling his outstanding contribution to the uplift of the weaker sections of the society, the Chief Minister hailed the role of Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Ambedkar as a scholar, jurist, economist, social reformer and statesman par excellence.

On Dr Ambedkar’s 127th birth anniversary, the Chief Minister called upon the people to tread the path shown by the great social reformer, urging them to work zealously towards the realization of Dr. Ambedkar’s vision and dream by carving out an egalitarian society for securing justice and equality for all the sections of society.
