Chandigarh, January 9, 2014: In a major reprieve to the ASHA workers of the state, the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today gave nod for implementing the hike in their incentives by Rs 1,000.
Presiding over a meeting with the representatives of the ASHA workers here at his residence, the Chief Minister asked the officers of the Health and Family Welfare department to immediately implement this decision, which would benefit more than 16000 ASHA workers working across the state under the National Health Mission.
Taking part in the deliberations, the Chief Minister also asked the Health department to make provisions for rest rooms of ASHA workers in every government hospital of the state, so that they could perform their duty effectively. He further asked the officers to explore the feasibility for providing Insurance Cover and Health care facilities to these workers in the state. Badal also asked the Health department to take up the matter of giving Mobile allowance to these workers, with the Union government.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the Health department to provide cloth for uniforms to these workers along with the money to get their uniforms stitched. Likewise, he also asked the officers of the Health department to ensure that these workers should get their incentives on a fixed date through the banks.
