Chandigarh, August 11, 2014: In a bid to further boost the National Cadet Corps (NCC) - a Tri-Services Organisation comprising the Army, Navy and Air Force in a big way in the state, the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today announced to setup a state-of-the-art NCC Nagar-cum-Academy at Jalandhar over an area of six acres.
A decision to this effect was taken by Badal today while presiding over a high level meeting here at Punjab Bhawan in which the Additional Director General NCC, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh Maj. General GS Chima VSM, Brigadier SPS Aulakh and senior officers of the state government had participated.
Badal said that State Government would extend fulsome support and cooperation to the NCC Directorate for intensifying its activities through involving more and more youth in the state. He said that the state government had already set up NCC academies at Rupnagar and Malout, which wre running successfully. He also approved the proposal of the Directorate for the up-gradation of the NCC Companies (Minor Units) to the NCC Battalion levels for enhancing the scope of NCC and asked the authorities to immediately initiate the process in this regard.
The Chief Minister also gave his nod to establish NCC Nagars on the Gujarat model at Amritsar, Patiala and Ludhiana in a phased manner after the completion of the same at Jalandhar. While reviewing the ongoing works under the NCC Programme in the state, Badal asked Maj. General GS Chima to give their proposals to the Higher Education department so that Government could release the amount accordingly for the completion of unfinished works at NCC academies. The Chief Minister also approved to delegate the HoD powers to ADG NCC. On the request of NCC directorate, Badal asked the Finance Department to workout the modalities for making Budgetary provisions in the Higher Education’s Budget as per the requirements of the NCC directorate to mitigate annual maintenance expenditure for these NCC academies. Badal also directed the concerned authorities to complete water Supply works at the academies within a week, besides the construction of inner roads and Basketball and Volleyball grounds of the academies at Rupnagar and Malout.
Expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister for considering their all demands and prompt action for the development of NCC, the Additional Director General NCC, Maj. General GS Chima assured Badal that Directorate would strive hard to inculcating soldier like spirit in the youth of the state by motivating them to join NCC for a disciplined life.
Prominent amongst those who were present on the occasion included Higher Education Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra, Principal Secretary Finance Vini Mahajan, Principal Secretary Higher Education Dr. Roshan Sunkaria, Assistant Director NCC Ashok Kumar, Special Principal Secretaries to the Chief Minister K.J.S. Cheema and Dr. SK Raju and DC Jalandhar Kamal Kishor Yadav besides other senior officers of the State government.
