Ludhiana, September 15, 2014: The Indian Army is undertaking massive rescue and relief operations in the flood ravaged state of Jammu and Kashmir and the whole Nation came together for providing relief and rescue material for over four lakh people trapped in the worst floods witnessed by the valley in six decades.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Vajra Corps, Lieutenant General NPS Hira, himself belonging to Ludhiana district, has applauded the residents of Ludhiana district and neighboring towns for donation of massive relief material for the flood victims. The local Army formation under the guidance of Brig Jagdeep Dahiya, Station Commander Dholewal Military Station has co-ordinated the collection and despatch of relief material of approximately 148 Tons over 10 days period. 148 Tons of relief material is the highest ever relief material collected from any single district. The response of the magnanimous Ludhianvis has been overwhelming. They provided relief material in form of water, juices, food items, clothes, blankets and medicines etc. The response of industrial units too was very heartening. The relief material provided will help Indian Army to provide succor to flood affected persons.
