Grover, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University presided over the Executive Council meeting of Panjab University Alumni Association (PUAA) held here today He shared with the members about the efforts being made to make PUAA Global. He informed that Panjab University Campus Students Alumni Association based in Vancouver,
Canada organized their Fourth Annual Reunion on October 22nd, 2017 at Surrey, Canada and Panjab University Vice Chancellor and P.U. Dean Alumni Relations attended it. It was a highly successful reunion as around 400 members along with family members attended this meet. There are plans to invite Alumni settled in USA, UK, Australia and Canada for Global Alumni Meeting on the fifth reunion day later this year at Surrey, he added. The occasion was used by the Vice-Chancellor and Dean Alumni Relations to visit University of British Columbia (UBC), Simon Fraser Valley (SFV) and University of Fraser Valley (UFV), with whom PU have signed MOUs. Subsequent to this visit, PU and IC-IMPACTS signed an MOU on 15 November 2017 at New Delhi to provide opportunities to Canadian and Indian Researchers to collaborate with PU and CRICK institutions by organizing PU Alumni meets in Canada for supporting community based research programmes, scholarships and fellowships.
The members were also informed about the forthcoming visit of Panjab University Vice Chancellor along with Dean Alumni to U.K on the invitation of Vice-Chancellor of University of Birmingham for the inauguration of India International Centre at its Edgbaston Campus. During this visit, series of meetings with the Panjab University Alumni and Punjabi diaspora settled in Birmingham, Nottingham and London have been planned. Prof. Grover hoped that this visit will also be very useful for promoting the agenda of Panjab University with the help of alumni settled in UK.
Prof. Anil Monga, Dean Alumni Relations shared with the members regarding two new endowments; one Shri Balwant S. Grewal, Wg. Cdr (Retd.) donated Rs. 2 lac for starting up an endowment fund in the name of Jasbinder and Balwant Singh Grewal; @ Rs.10,000/- p.a. out of interest accrued to a student topper in the Master in Social Work Course at the Centre for Social Work, Panjab University, Chandigarh and the other by Mr Jainti Kumar Batish, Former Director, (Bogs) NABARD, donated Rs 1 lac for starting up an endowment in the name of Pt. Puran Chand-Smt. Devki Devi; for awarding two topper students of B.Sc (Hons.) and M.Sc. (Hons.), Department of Geology, Panjab University, Chandigarh. These endowments will be given from the year 2019.
