PU USOL organises its 1st ever convocation

Emphasising the scope of the USOL, PU Vice Chancellor Prof Arun Grover stated that USOL is a medium by which ICT enabled education in the areas of Engineering, Sciences Performing Arts and other professional courses like Dental Colleges and UILS can be made available in a distant mode to the outside word and these lectures typically would be delivered by PU Faculty. Such endeavor will allow PU to complete with peer institutions word wide which is making available these courses to the external world via National Knowledge Network etc. He appreciated the initiative of the department for organising the event.

Chandigarh, October 15, 2014: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh University School of Open Learning (USOL) today organised its 1st ever convocation in its Auditorium. As many as 58 students, including undergraduates and postgraduates, from various streams received their degrees from Padam Sri awardee and the former Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission, Srikumar Banerjee.  Srikumar Banerjee delivered the convocation address.

Addressing the gathering including faculty members and degree awardees, Prof Banerjee underscored the expanding role of distance learning and education in the contemporary times. Emphasizing the point of paradigm shift that the contemporary education is undergoing, the He said that education was no longer remains confined to the four walls of the university. He also maintained that the education should not be considered merely as an instrument of survival, rather it should be taken as a mechanism for the betterment of the needy and disadvantaged.

Chairman of USOL Prof L.K. Bansal, left no stone unturned in organising the event and making it successful.  Professor Bansal also welcomed the Chief Guest and other dignitaries present on the occasion.  Professor Ravi K Mahajan a faculty of USOL, introduced to the audience, the various landmark achievements of the USOL and also conducted the stage.
