PU Twitter Profile Gets Verified

Chandigarh, June 4, 2015: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh has today joined the select league of Universities like Harvard and Stanford, whose official Twitter Profiles have been verified by the Twitter. PU got this information late last night.

Thus, PU, Chandigarh has become the first and the only University of India, whose Twitter Profile and Facebook Page have both got verified by Twitter and Facebook respectively. PU is also the first Indian Public University, whose Twitter Profile has got verified. A blue badge would now appear  next to PU Twitter Profile, @OfficialPU, as it has now become a verified Profile.

The official facebook page of the University is also very popular on the facebook and is followed by more than 91 thousand people. It may be recalled that PU official facebook page was also the first page of any Indian public University, which got verified by the facebook.

PU Director, Public Relations, Mr Vineet Punia informed that the Twitter and Facebook Verification helps in establishing authenticity of identities of key individuals and brands on Social Media. It becomes easier for users to find, who they are looking for.

Twitter verifies ‘highly sought users in music, acting, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, sports, business and other key interest areas’ and it is a great news that Twitter chose PU to be the first public University of the country, he added.

Mr Punia said that the Twitter and Facebook has provided two powerful tools to the University for connecting with the tech-savvy young generation. Both have helped the university to spreading information globally among its alumni, well wishers and admission aspirants, he added. He said that Social media has become very important in this information age. Social media is all the more important for educational institutions as most of the younger generation and students are connected through popular social mediums like Facebook and Twitter, he added.

PU Twitter Handle was launched by PU alumna Kiran Bedi on November 21, 2014. PU Facebook page was launched on October 21, 2013.
