Chandigarh, July 20, 2016: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh today hosted a special lecture on Estimating time since death and post mortem biochemistry at the Institute of Forensic Science & Criminology.
Professor and Head, Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology,Government Medical College & Hospital-32, Chandigarh Dr. Dasari Harish delivered the special lecture.
In his lecture, Dr. Dasari talked about different methods that are currently followed to calculate time since death which are based on physical, anatomical and
biochemical changes that occur in body after death. He shared with the audience that none of the currently used methods for calculating time since death are perfect as it depends on many factors like climate, physique, age, sex etc. He stressed the need to develop biochemical markers based on postmortem changes that would be more precise.
Coordinator of the Institute Prof. Rajat Sandhir informed that the institute plan to have one lecture from an expert every month so that the students
could gain from the expertise of the scientists working in different areas on forensic science.
The lecture was attended by faculty, students and research fellows of the department along with scientists from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory
