Chandigarh, March 26, 2019: The second NSS special camp at Panjab University Campus culminated today with valedictory function. The function was presided over by Prof.Karamjit Singh, Registrar; Prof.EmanualNahar, Dean Student Welfare; Prof.SanjayKaushik, Dean Development Council, Prof.YojanaRawat, Chairperson USOL, and Professor Parminder Singh, Director Sports ; PU NSS Programme Officers and faculty from various departments of University.
Dr.Navdeep Sharma, NSS Programme Coordinator, apprised the guests about the activities which were organized during the span of 7 days. She shared that the focus was on skill building activities for overall personality development of volunteers. For this purpose various participatory and interactive sessions on issues of social concern were organized such as Legal Aid Assistance by representatives of State Legal Services Authority, Amnesty International’s Senior Campaigner, Mr.SanamSuthirathWazir led a session on Youth and Human Rights with a focus on gender equality, Climate Change and Solid Waste Management , Dental and Oral Hygiene and Self-Defence training from Swayam team of Chandigarh Police. To imbibe values of hygiene and cleanliness regular cleanliness drives were held.
Prof.Karamjit Singh, in his valedictory address opined that “Youth are harbingers of social change and NSS is a platform where they can channelize their energies in a positive direction. Heemhasised role of community work for initiating change in society.
Later, he presented awards of honour to best NSS volunteers who had shown exemplary performance during the 7 days. A team of dedicated and committed volunteers who worked behind the scenes to make this camp a success comprising IG Awardee SandeepBajwa, Sikander Singh and his team, Binesh Bhatia and Shyamlal were also honoured for their selfless work in smooth conduct of the camp.
This was followed by a vibrant cultural performance by NSS volunteers wherein they showcased their talent and enthralled the audience with various choreographic sequences depicting life of youth in university “MaujMastiyan”, followed by Nati, folk dance of Himachal Pradesh which left the audience awestruck. Between the different performances the students showcased their poetic side by reciting poems on social issues and importance of family and inculcating feeling of patriotism.
A nukkadnatak themed ‘KachroKeKhiladi’ directed by NSS volunteer Sikandar Singh and his team of NSS volunteers stressed upon the need of Swachhta. Lastly, amidst all fun, laughter and zeal of activities the audience were enthralled by enthusiastic bhangra performance.
