PU notifies public holidays for Calendar Year 2015

Chandigarh, December 19, 2014:  Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh has notified the public holidays in its offices, departments and affiliated colleges for the calendar year 2015.

The public holidays include Guru Gobind Singh’s birth anniversary (January 5), Republic Day (January 26), Guru Ravidas birth anniversary (February 3), Maha Shivratri (February 17), Holi (March 6), Shaheedi Diwas of S. Bhagat Singh Ji (March 23), Ram Naumi (March 28), Mahavir Jayanti (April 2), Good Friday (April 3), Baisakhi and Dr B.R. Ambedkar’ s Jayanti (April 14), Parshu Ram Jayanti (April 20), Guru Arjan Dev’s Martyrdom Day (June

16), Id-ul-Fitr (July 18), Independence Day (August 15), Janam Ashtami (September 5), Id-ul-Juha (Bakrid) (September 25), Mahatma Gandhi’s Birthday (October 2), Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti (October 13), Dussehra (October 22 & 23), Muharram (October 24), Maharshi Balmiki Ji Birthday (October 27), Diwali (November 10 & 11), Guru Teg Bahadur’s Martyrdom Day (November 24), Guru Nanak Birthday (November 25) and Christmas Day (December 25).

Except for Saturdays falling in the month of May/June in case of the Office timings are changed from 8.00 AM to 2.00 PM without lunch break, during this period. Saturdays would be observed as full working days under the orders of the competent authority.

The Teaching Departments including Non-Teaching Staff and Administrative Offices of the University will open at 11.00 AM instead of 9.00 AM on account of Raksha Bandan and Bhai Dooj as and when these occasions fall.

The Women employees of the University, who are to observe Karva Chauth as and when this falls are allowed to leave the office at 2.00 PM under an intimation to the respective Chairperson/Head of the Department/Branch/Office.

The Panjab University employees working in the teaching Departments or Administrative Offices, who wish to participate in religious processions/Nagar Kirtans to be taken out in the city on the eve of the various religious occasions, may join the procession after obtaining half day restricted holiday (second half) for this purpose.

For availing of the restricted holidays (maximum five half days), the employees are required to give their choice to their respective Chairperson/Head of the Department/Branch/Office in a Performa latest by January 23, 2015. The Chairperson/Head of the Department/Branch/Office, in turn, shall send the signed Performa to the Dean

University Instruction in the case of employees working in the teaching departments and

to the Registrar in the case of employees working in other Offices/Non-Teaching departments/Branches latest by January 31, 2015. They shall enforce it strictly. The Chairperson/Head of the Departments/Branches/Offices shall make arrangements for the emergent work of the person/s who take half day restricted holiday.
