PU Community Radio collaborates with BBC, UNICEF for new youth radio show

Chandigarh, June 19, 2017: Panjab University’s Community Radio Radio Jyotirgamaya 91.2MHz launched its new radio show, Full On Nikki from today. The radio show has been created and developed by BBC Media Action in partnership with UNICEF, and will include local programming created and developed by Radio Jyotirgamaya 91.2Mhz. The show is a one-of-its-kind youth show with a special focus on gender issues among young adults and adolescents. The inaugural episode of the show was based on the theme ‘The Voice and Silence’, where various concerns regarding Voice & Silence for the youth were brought to light. The show is also the first international collaboration for the Panjab University Community Radio.
The show, Full On Nikki, will be broadcast on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7.30 pm on Radio Jyotirgamaya 91.2 Mhz with the respective reruns on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 7.30pm.
Col. G.S.Chadha (Retd.) Registrar, said that it is a matter of great pride for PU to have an international collaboration with BBC and UNICEF which not only enables sensitization of young boys and girls to gender issues, but is also crucial in the
development of community radio in India.
Prof. Archana R. Singh, Chairperson, informed that the program, specially created by BBC and UNICEF, focuses on the dreams and aspiration of the youth worldwide. She further informed that the 78-episode long radio show aims to sensitize the age group of 10-19 year-olds to gender and also aims to help young boys and girls develop a conceptual understanding of gender-related issues. The show will be broadcast under the agreement signed between Indian Community Radio Association and UNICEF. The topics and themes of the show have been created by UNICEF. Out of 193 Community Radio stations running in India, Panjab University’s Radio Jyotirgamaya 91.2 Mhz is among the 25 Community Radio stations that have been chosen under the international collaboration to broadcast the show Full On Nikki, she added. She informed that in future also it is being planned to collaborate for more radio shows.
