Chandigarh, June 05, 2017: The Horticulture Division of Panjab University in association with State Bank of India organized a tree plantation drive at Prof.R.C.Paul Rose Garden, Panjab University on the occasion of World Environment Day today. Prof.Arun Kumar Grover, Vice-Chancellor presided over the event. He raised his concern over the global warming and appreciated the initiative taken by Er. Anil Thakur and his team. The
event was well attended by dignitaries from State Bank of India as well as Panjab University. Sh.Sanjay Kumar, General Manager and Sh.Anil Grover, Regional Manager from State Bank of India, Chandigarh and Col. G.S. Chadha, Registrar and C.A Vikram Nayyar, Finance & Development Officer from Panjab University, Chandigarh planted Ashoka trees on this occasion. Prof. Seema Kapoor, Co-ordinator, Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, Prof. Rupinder Tewari, Deptt. of Microbiotechnology, Prof. Ramandeep KaurJohal, Associate Director, Research Promotion Cell and Dr. Sonia Sharma, SSBUICET also graced the occasion.
Keeping in line with Prime Minister’s address on ‘Mann Ki Baat’ not to treat garbage as waste but wealth or a resource, the awareness pamphlets on segregation of waste at source were distributed, clearly informing the use of separate dustbins-green for wet/biodegradable/organic waste and blue for dry/recyclable waste.
Swachhta pledge regarding segregation of waste at source was taken by about 200 teaching and non-teaching employees present at the event and hence, making a contribution towards Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Two solar lights sponsored by State Bank of India were also installed in the Prof. R.C. Paul Rose Garden.
