Celebrations of 638th Sri Guru Ravidas Jayanti take place at PTU.

Jalandhar, February 6, 2015: To mark the 638th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Ravidas, Punjab Technical University celebrated the occasion by distributing books to the students of village Khera and open ‘langar’ in their main campus today.

On this occasion, Professor G C Kaul, Retired Head of Department, Punjabi from DAV College, Jalandhar remained the Chief Guest. The event began with the welcoming addresses and wishes from Dean Academics Dr.Buta S Sidhu; Dr.A P Singh- Dean RIC; Registrar Dr.Rajneesh Kant Sachdev; OSD to VC Arun Prabhakar.

Sandeep Mehmi, Assistant Registrar highlighted the history of Sri Guru Ravidas and threw the light on the significance of the occasion. He termed him as a great saint and religious reformer, the nation recalls with pride his ceaseless struggle to eradicate the evils of casteism and establish a classless society.

Professor G C Kaul also shared his academic experience in context of his thesis work over Sri Guru Ravidas. He told that Guru fought against social inequalities and injustice throughout his life. He added, “Ravidasji taught us that a person is not to be recognised by his caste but by his qualities and deeds. The life and teachings of the saint inspired the entire world to establish equality in society and lead a happy and peaceful life.”

The students from nearby village Khera-Majha were then distributed with the books, to encourage them to study with complete dedication. The occasion lasted with the open ‘Guru ka Langar’ for PTU staff, students and guests.
