PTBA requests ETC to withdraw new proposal for VAT dealers
Ludhiana, November 18, 2014: Excise & Taxation department has proposed that VAT dealers should be asked to submit the details of data & other particulars concerning statutory forms extra through online. A meeting of office bearers of Punjab Tax Bar Association (PTBA) was held today on said issue in which Ashok Kumar Juneja, President & B.R. Kaushal viewed that in case the said proposal becomes law under PVAT Act it will create much difficulties for much of the taxable dealers since they have no infrastructure by which they can follow such system and most of the VAT dealers are petty, small & of medium level who do not have the computers systems. In the absence of proper & computer systems the entire burden will be shifted to their counsels-cum-tax practitioners.  Consequently Tax practitioners would be left with clerical job rather than providing legal services which is not acceptable to any Bar member.
Ajay Chaudhary, Vice President & Arun Kanwal, Secretary (PTBA) said that most of the said dealers have part time accountants who normally visit their business twice or thrice in a month and they have no knowledge of computer systems.
Bal Krishan Gupta, Chairman (Vat Board) (PTBA) said in the meeting that department is already charging Rs 800 to 5,000 as processing fee therefore, it becomes department`s duty to keep track & proper record of dealers.
Rupinder Kansal (Moga) Secretary & Tarlok Bhalla, Joint Secretary (PTBA) said that dealers should be spared from being envolved in tax complications & compliances since it will divert their attention from business and they are contributing much revenue in the bucket of State. H.S. Ghai (Khanna) Joint Secretary said that it is wrong to evolve dealers & Bar members in said system since burden on them will increase much. PTBA requested Verma, ETC to withdraw said proposal. In the meantime ETC has extended the last date of e-filing of annual statement in Form VAT 20 upto 10th December 2014.
