Pt. Sharda Ram Phillauri’s birth anniversary celebrated:
Bawa and Makkar demand for setting of chair in GNDU and release of postal stamp in memory of Pt. Sharda Ram Phillauri
Ludhiana, September 30, the 175th birth anniversary Pt. Sharda Ram Phillauri, the author of highly popular Aarti ''Om Jai Jagdish Hare'', was today observed with great fervour in the premises of Durga Mata Mandir here today.
This state-level function was organised by Pt. Sharda Ram Phillauri Memorial Welfare Society, Punjab, under the leadership of the society’s chairman Krishan Kumar Bawa. Thousands of devotees participated in the function, in which Aarti ''Om Jai Jagdish Hare'' was sung by the flute player Mohit Navmdev.
Divya Jyoti Swami Prakasha Nand and Swami Ram Sharna Nand spoke about the life and works of Pt. Sharda Ram Phillauri. They preached people to follow the path of truth and religion.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Harmohinder Singh Bedi, former Head, Hindi Department, GNDU, Amritsar who has authored many books on the life and works of Pt. Sharda Ram Phillauri, said Pt. Sharda Ram Phillauri had written Aarti on April 13, 1863. “By doing so, Pt. Sharda Ram Phillauri did the job of uniting all temple committees and Hindu religion”, he remarked. Dr. Bedi further said that by writing books in both Hindi and Punjab, Pt. Sharda Ram Phillauri enlightened the masses and brought them out of darkness of illiteracy. Pt. Phillauri also let the countrymen not to change their religion under any kind of pressure, he said.
On the occasion, the society’s office bearers including KK Bawa, Ashok Makkar and Leena Taparia honoured Mahant Narainpuri (Sanglawala shivala), Jagdish Bajaj (Gyan Sthal Mandir), Krishan Chand Gupta (Durga Mata Mandir), Sunanda Goswami, Raj Rani (Durga Mata Bhagwati Mandir), Avinash Gupta, President, Swami Ganga Nand Bhuri Wale Gaushala Trust, KK Joshi (Durga Mata Mandir, urban estate, Dugri, Jagdish Jain, SS Jain Sabha Raikot Trustee Gaushala Trust Rakba, noted intellect Dr. Harmohinder Singh Bedi and renowned writer and intellect Prem Bhushan Goyal were honoured.
Besides, New Hope Organisation president NS Nanda, Councillor Balwinder Bedi, Sajan Malhotra Jagraon, Darshan Dabar, Sham Sunder Bhardwaj, Rajinder Bawa, Mahant Gian Das Maksudan, Bhagwan Das Bawa, Prof. Madan goyal, Navdeep singh Vickey, Shakti Sharma, Paramjit Singh Ahluwalia, Gurmel singh Mela, Neelam Kohli, Megh Raj Upadhyaya, Parveen Bhagat, Anil Sethi, Lakhvir Chand Sharma, Yashpal sharma, Bhupinder Bawa, Neelam Rani, Ashwani Sharma TT, VK Dogra, Balvir Dogra, Brij Bhushan Goyal, Raj Rani , Sunanda Goswami and others were honoured with shawls and momentoes.
Speaking on the occasion, Bawa and Makkar demanded that the Centre should release a postal stamp in the memory of Pt. Sharda Ram Phillauri. They also demanded the setting of a chair on the memory of Pt. Sharda Ram Phillauri at GNDU, Amritsar.
Among others, Nirmal Kaira, Harchand Singh Dhir, Kamal Krishan Sharma were present.
