Ludhiana, May 2, 2017: Punjab Higher Education and School Education Mrs Aruna Chaudhary today said that the Congress led Punjab government is committed for providing world class education to the people. She said that for uplifting the standard of education, keeping in mind the strength of students as well as teachers, a new policy is being formulated. She said this while speaking to media persons while attending the annual convocation of SCD Government College, here today.

She said that it is often seen that the strength of teachers in some schools is less while the number of students is much more and at some places, the number of teachers is more while the students are less. She said that the Punjab government is in the process of formulating a policy in which rationalization of teachers would be done so that the students get best quality education. She said that special emphasis on education would be given to Kandi and Bet areas of the state.

While replying to a question related to fees of private schools, Mrs Chaudhary said that different committees have been formed in this regard and if any private school is found overcharging than the set limit, then strict action would be taken against them. She said that hefty fines would be imposed on the managements of such schools, and if they still don’t stop from indulging in this malpractice, the Punjab government would even cancel their affiliations.

She also informed that Safe School Vahan Scheme would be implemented more effectively and strict instructions in this regard have already been issued to the concerned departments. The Minister said that safety of students is primary and that they would not tolerate any discrepancies in this regard.

During the convocation, the Minister distributed degrees to more than 900 students of 2015-16 session. While addressing the students, Mrs Aruna Chaudhary said that the students should themselves come forward and work for the eradication of social evils such as female feticide, dowry and drugs. She said that the youth should channelize their energy in the right direction so that they can achieve their goals easily. She also emphasized that colleges should start imparting skill education to the students.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Gill MLA Mr Kuldip Singh Vaid, MLA Mr Surinder Dawar, Principal of Government Girls School Bharat Nagar Mrs Kamaljit Kaur Vaid, Cluster Education Officer Mrs Paramjit Kaur, DEO (Secondary) Mr Sarabjit Singh, Principal of SCD Government College Dr Dharam Singh Sandhu, Mr Ashwani Bhalla, besides several others.
