Ludhiana, July 16, 2013: Farm workers under the banner of Punjab Khet Mazdoor Sabha staged a protest here today, to join the nation-wide strike by farm workers. They also submitted a memorandum to President of India through District Administration.
Speakers strongly condemned the policies of the Centre and the state government as well. They opined that the government should constitute a policy and programme for social, economic and constitutional security, and also for protecting human rights of farm workers.
Addressing the striking farm workers,CPI central executive member Dr. Joginder Dayal fully supported the strike by the farm workers and said demands of the farm workers were genuine and these could not ignored at any cost.
Dayal regretted that farm workers were to fight for their rights even after passage of 66 years of Independence. He said the Centre and the state governments should not take test of patience of the farm workers, and called upon farm workers to further intensify the ongoing struggle.
In his address, the Sabha’s state general secretary Gulzar Goria said the government should make a hike in wages of farm workers if it wanted to really bring them into mainstream.
Among others, Kulwant Singh Hunjan, Kartar Singh Buani, Dr. Arun Mitra, DP Mour and Om Parkash Mehta spoke on the occasion.
