PROPOSAL TO PROVIDE MID-DAY MEAL TO STUDENTS UP TO CLASS TWELFTH: GURSANDEEP SINGH GREWAL
MEMBER OF PUNJAB STATE FOOD COMMISSION INSPECTS DISTRIBUTION OF PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION OF WHEAT IN CITY TODAY
Ludhiana, March 15, 2019: Punjab State Food Commission member Mr Gursandeep Singh Grewal today stated that there is a proposal of providing mid-day meal to students up to class twelfth. He said that at present, the mid-day meal is being provided to students of Aanganwari’s and of up to class eighth. He said that the commission has already initiated proceedings in this regard. He informed this while inspecting different ration depot’s in city today.
Mr Grewal informed that it has been observed that the mid day meal facility would be provided to students of up to class twelfth so that maximum students get connected to the government schools for education as well as other facilities. He informed that this decision has been taken in line with the Andhra Pradesh government decision, which also provided mid day meal to students up to class twelfth.
He said that his main aim of visiting the city was to inspect the public distribution of wheat to blue card holders. He also clarified that although the model code of conduct is in place in the country, but the welfare schemes that are going on for long, their beneficiaries would continue to get benefits.
He also directed the ration depot holders to ensure proper and transparent public distribution of wheat and other commodities to the consumers in an effective manner. He also clarified that there should no violation of model code of conduct.
He directed District Education Officer Mrs Swaranjit Kaur to ensure good quality eatables in mid day meal scheme in schools. He also asked her to send demand for funds required for mid day meal in advance so that there is no hindrance for this scheme.
