Raikot (Ludhiana), September 4, 2019: The Mission Tandrust Punjab started by the Punjab government with an aim to provide good health, clean environment and a healthy lifestyle, has started showing good results. On the call of Chief Minister Punjab Capt Amarinder Singh regarding not burning straw to save our environment, several organisations have come forward.
Moving ahead in this direction, an awareness function was organised by Gadri Baba Dulla Singh Giani Nihal Singh Foundation Jalaldiwal, in association with BPCL, Royal Enfield and CII Foundation, at village Daddahur.
It is pertinent to mention here that during the function, Gadri Baba Dulla Singh Giani Nihal Singh Foundation announced to adopt 34 villages of Raikot for proper management of wheat/paddy straw. Foundation Directors HS Sidhu and Tota Singh informed that their foundation has been regularly educating the farmers about ill effects of burning straw and benefits of ploughing it in soil, along with organising training camps in their villages, as well as visits to Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana.
They said that during harvesting season, their team members stay in villages for several days and provide technical assistance to the farmers. They informed that they started this work five years ago by adopting one village, and now this figure has reached 34. They also informed that they are also in the process of setting up air quality check machines in these villages to check quality of air, along with soil testing.
While addressing the gathering, SDM Raikot Dr Himanshu Gupta appealed to the farmers to assist them in proper management of straw, rather than just burning it.
Today’s function, organised at Government Senior Secondary School, Daddahur, was also attended by several prominent personalities such as eminent journalist Baltej Singh Pannu, Seema Arora from CII, Ankur Gambhir from BPCL, Dr Jaskaran Singh Mahal from PAU, Dr Manpreet Singh, head, Farm Machinery, Dr Baldev Singh Chief Agriculture Officer, Prabhdeep Singh Nathowal District Public Relations Officer Ludhiana, Principal Santokh Singh, besides several others.
