Ludhiana, June 9, 2015: In a bid to promote sports and sports culture in the state, the Punjab government will be giving cash awards to sportspersons who have brought accolades for the state in international as well as national level sports events.
A special function in this regard would be held in the Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan, here, on June 23 and will be attended by Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal.
District Sports Officer, Ludhiana, Mr Mahinder Singh informed the eligible sportspersons will be those who have won medals in the above mentioned sports events in year 2013-2014 (between date April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014) and for year 2014-2015 (between April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015).
The DSO further informed that the gold medal winners of Olympic Games will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs 2.25 crore, silver medallists Rs 1.01 crore and bronze medallists Rs 51 lakh. Similarly, gold medallists of official World Cup/Championship (which takes place every four years) will get Rs 21 lakh, silver medalists Rs 11 lakh and bronze medalists Rs 7 lakh. Gold medalists of Asian Games will get Rs 26 lakh, silver medalists Rs 16 lakh and bronze medalists Rs 11 lakh. Gold medalists of Commonwealth Games will get Rs 16 lakh, silver medalists Rs 11 lakh and bronze medalists Rs 6 lakh. Gold medalists of National Games/Afro Asian Games/SAF Games will get Rs 3 lakh, silver medalists Rs 2 lakh and bronze medalists Rs 1 lakh.
Similarly, the gold medalists of World Cup/Asian Championship/Commonwealth Championship (which takes place every two years) will get Rs 5 lakh, silver medalists Rs 3 lakh and bronze medalists Rs 2 lakh. The gold medalists of Olympic Games (Handicapped Category) will get Rs 5 lakh, silver medalists Rs 3 lakh and bronze medalists Rs 2 lakh. Gold medalists of International Events (Handicapped category) will get Rs 2 lakh, silver medalists Rs 1.25 lakh and bronze medalists Rs 75,000. The gold medalists of National Games (Handicapped category) will get Rs 20,000, silver medalists Rs 15,000 and bronze medalists Rs 10,000. The gold medalists of Senior National Games will get Rs 40,000, silver medalists Rs 20,000 and bronze medalists Rs 15,000. Gold medalists of All India Inter University Championship/National Women Sports Festival will get Rs 15,000, silver medalists Rs 12,000 and bronze medalists Rs 10,000. Gold medalists of National School Games will get Rs 15,000, silver medalists Rs 10,000 and bronze medalists Rs 7,500. Gold medalists of All India Rural Tournament will get Rs 15,000, silver medalists Rs 10,000 and bronze medalists Rs 7,000. The gold medalists of Senior State Championship/Tournament will get Rs 4,800, silver medalists Rs 3,600 and bronze medalists Rs 2,400. Gold medalists of World Veteran and Asian Veteran Athletics Championship will get a cash award of Rs 50,000, silver medalists Rs 30,000 and bronze medalists Rs 20,000.
