Professor Ram Chand Paul National Symposium on theme ‘Chemistry for Future (RCPNS) 2019’
Chandigarh, March 1, 2019: Department of Chemistry, Panjab University (PU) organized two days Professor Ram Chand Paul National Symposium on the theme ‘Chemistry for Future (RCPNS) 2019’, here today. Prof.Devinder Mehta, Dean Science, PU, in his address informed about different important roles played by the Professor Ram Chand Paul in the country and importance of chemistry for our daily life. Prof.K.N.Singh, Chairman, Department of Chemistry in his welcome address he elaborated primary objective of this national symposium to sensitize and stimulate the young minds of research scholars and faculties. Prof. Venugopalan, Convener RCPNS-2019, addressed audience about importance of symposium. Prof. N. Jayaraman, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, delivered a Prof. Kewal Tewari Endowment Lecture on Synthesis and Structural Facets of Septanoside Sugars. He highlighted that septanosides are unnatural sugars and attains rare chair-boat conformations in the solid state. Prof. P. N. Vinayachandran, IISc Bangalore gave an invited talk on Encounters with a fascinating bay. Dr. Goutam De, Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST) Mohali gave an invited talk on Functional Nanocomposite Coatings by the Wet-Chemical Route, Dr. Savita Chaudhary, PU talked about Potential Role of Functionalized Nanoparticles in Environmental Remediation Application. Dr. Vijay Pal Singh, PU talked about Role of Secondary Interactions in the Stability and Reactivity of the Organoselenium Compounds. Three oral presentations by research scholars Mr. Munish Kumar, Ms. Namrata Rani and Ms. Sushila. In poster session, more than 150 posters were presented by the faculty members, research scholars, post-graduates and under-graduate students. Prof. J. N. Moorthy (IIT, Kanpur), Dr. Swadhin K. Mandal (IISER Kolkata) and Dr. Prabal Banerjee (IIT, Ropar) are few important resource persons, who will deliver their lectures tomorrow. The daughter and son in law of late Prof. R. C. Paul, Mrs. Madhu Kaul and Mr. Kuldeep Kaul also graced the occasion. Department of Chemistry presented a documentary paying tribute to Prof. R. C. Paul.
