Prof K.C.Kaistha passes away

Chandigarh, May 8, 2017: Prof K.C.Kaistha, former professor of sociology, Panjab University, Chandigarh passed away at the age of 75. Prof. Kaistha did teach in the Department of Anthropology of P.U. and from there he went to Havard University, Massachusetts for his higher studies in Demography. After coming back to India he joined Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi and in 1980 he joined the department of Sociology, Panjab University, Chandigarh. During his stay in the department he
worked as head of the department of sociology besides also taking charge of the Population Research Centre as Director. He was excellent teacher and superb scholar in sociology and social anthropology. He retired from the department as Professor in 2005. Prof. Kaistha breathed last on 6th May night at his residence in Delhi.
Today Dr. Kumul Abbi, Chairperson, department of Sociology, called a Condolence meeting that was also joined by many of his formers colleagues and friends from the department of Political Science, Anthropology, and Population Research Centre at P.U. Prof S.L. Sharma, eminent sociologist, Prof Sherry Sabharwal, director Population Research Centre, Prof. B.S. Brar, department of Political science, Prof. Shalina Mehta, department of Anthropology paid homage to late Prof. Kaistha. Everyone remembered Prof. Kaistha for his scholarly attributes and his humane qualities. The meeting concluded after observing two minute silence
in the memory of departed soul.
