Ferozepur, October 3, 2012: The employees of the procuring agencies have also boycott the paddy purchase process officially started on October 1 on the plea to abolish the condition of joint custody of paddy with the millers and there has been no purchase in the mandis for the third day.
Harjinder Singh, president of Markfed Employees Union when contacted said, today the employees of all the procuring agencies are at Chandigarh to register their protest against the joint custody of paddy stored in the premises of the rice millers. He further stated that recently two employees of Markfed have been implicated in the embezzlement of 26 wagons of paddy stored in the K.K. Rice Mill premises at Talwandi Bhai and remained in custody for more than one month.
He further stated, though the provision of regular physical verification has been kept at different stages but practically it would not be possible when once the paddy milling is started by the millers. He proposed that it would be more appropriate either to hand over the paddy to the rice millers or kept by the agencies and it should be released only against the production of documents of advance delivery of rice to the Food Corporation of India in the account of the agency. This would avoid the embezzlement of paddy stocks by the rice millers stored in their premises.
