Private bus operators jam traffic

Ferozepur, August 23, 2012 : The private bus operators on small routes around the Ferozepur today jammed the traffic at Shaheed Udham Singh Chowk, blocking all the roads leading to Malwal Road, Circular Road, City and Mall Road, in protest against the plying of three-wheelers beyond the municipality  limit, affecting the business of private buses and non-giving of time for meeting by the deputy commissioner, SSP and DTO.

The dispute started when 40-50 autos reached on Ferozeur-Fazilka road near Khai Pheme Ki and stopping the boarding of passengers in the buses.

Speaking to the media persons, the president Balwinder Singh said, there are number of three wheelers and unregistered vehicles plying in Ferozepur and as per government instructions these should run within the municipal limit but number of vehicles are plying to transport the passengers from the highway roads beyond the municipal limits causing financial loss to the private bus operators and the government.

He further said that today they tried to meet the officers of the district administration to apprise about the problem being faced by them but none of the officer bothered to give them the time and they were compelled to resort to traffic jam to show their resentment.

However, the traffic was cleared for the 108 Ambulance only as a gesture of goodwill and on humanitarian grounds.

However, the City Police Station, SHO Gurdeep Singh reached on the spot and controlled the situation.  However, with the intervention of SHO, local people and few media persons, to discuss the issue with the senior officers to sort out the problem the jam was lifted after about half an hour to avoid inconvenience to the public.
